Alan Turing

Creator of The Enigma Machine

Alan Turing is a celebrated mathematician, most noted for creating the Enigma Machine during the second world war.

He grew up in Upper Maze Hill and was educated as St Michael’s School in Charles Road before going on to study maths at Cambridge University.

During World War 2 he worked as a code breaker at Bletchley Park and developed the Enigma Machine enabling the allies to decode intercepted German messages, greatly affecting the course of the war.
